MODERN DAY

In this modern day and age, technological advancement is an
unstoppable force that increases the risk of the loss of traditional
crafts, like the batik industry, over time. The thought of having the
younger generations finding the art of batik less and less appealing as
time goes by, is rather upsetting. It is such a waste if we allow this
beautiful natural heritage to be overshadowed by modernization.
Hence, the effort to revitalize this industry is necessary to preserve
and nurture our beloved country’s national heritage.

Many efforts have been undertaken by individuals, various agencies
and ministries to rejuvenate the batik industry. The late YBhg. Datin
Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, the founder of Yayasan Budi Penyayang
Malaysia was a passionate advocate of Malaysian batik. Her love for
fashion and batik inspired her vision to make Malaysian batik known
throughout the world. She initiated the "Malaysia Batik: Crafted For The
            World Movement”.

To commemorate her tireless efforts, MITI/MIDA is collaborating with
Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (PENYAYANG) and Malaysian Batik
Association, Federation of Malaysian Fashion Textiles & Apparels
(FMFTA), and Kraftangan Malaysia to organise the BATIK WEEK 2021
themed “Revitalising the Malaysian Batik Industry” that will be
held virtually via Zoom platform on 25-29 October 2021
            (Monday-Friday).

The event will be addressed by MIDA Chief Executive officer, YBrs Mr
Arham Abdul Rahman; Chairman of Yayasan Budi Penyayang
Malaysia, YBrs. Ms. Nori Abdullah and it will be launched by YBhg
Dato’ Lokman Hakim Ali, Secretary General of MITI.

            The event will comprise:
            • Talks
            • Forums
            • A 3-day showcase of various Batik collections from several creative
                and talented Batik entrepreneurs.

The objectives of the Batik Week are to: -

                the resist element.
iv. Explore how technology can be applied to the processes involved
in batik making in keeping with the Malaysian IR4.0 initiative.
